Help for Hospitals with Self-Pay, Uninsured Patients—the Screening Process

Hospital Support Services, Inc. (HSS) staff can meet with your uninsured patients at your location and screen them for medical assistance eligibility criteria—and begin the application process.

The screening process

When your patients have no money to cover their expenses, that doesn’t necessarily leave your healthcare organization out in the cold financially. We have found that approximately 30% of all uninsured patients are eligible for medical assistance. These unpaid medical bills add up to a declining budget for you and increased costs for those patients who are self-sufficient. This can change.

Bedside evaluation...

We will screen and evaluate at the bedside of your patient to let you know if the possibility of medical assistance exists. This allows you to properly categorize your “self-pay” client into “medical assistance-pending,” “bad debt,” “charity,” or “collections. ”
